I started in a laboratory, modeling physical systems where the instrument never tells the whole truth. Eight years of teaching at a technical university, 200+ published papers, 50+ patents, the President's Prize, Young Scientist of the Year. I was good at one thing: catching numbers that drift.
People romanticize this part: a calling, a mission. I will be honest. The reason was money. I sat down one evening and priced the life I wanted. No professor, dean or rector in my country would ever earn it honestly. I resigned the same hour. I did not leave science. I changed laboratories. Same numbers, same formulas, same models. Different outcome.
Advertising did not care about my titles. My first launch was a masterclass in humility: four hundred people on a webinar, applause, compliments, and zero sales. I could buy attention. I could not yet turn it into money. The distance between a click and a dollar became my profession. And then I noticed something familiar: ad reports drift exactly like miscalibrated instruments. Unlike in the lab, nobody was checking.
I never actually changed profession. I measure systems that flatter their owners. In the lab they were reactors and sensors. Now they are ad accounts and the reports built on them. Naming it was the easy part: Profit Forensics.
